YEAR 3 HOME LEARNING
REMOTE LEARNING JANUARY 2020 - updated for Week 3
Wow! You are all working so hard and it's been fabulous seeing so many of you in our morning Team calls.
From this week we will begin holding 2 Teams calls - one at 9.50am and another at 1.55pm. The afternoon session will be a chance for you to ask any questions about the days work that you found challenging or to show off some of the amazing home learning that is happening within Year 3.
You will need to access Microsoft Teams online to login and meet our year team at 9.50am and 1.55pm.
You can access this by clicking this link: Microsoft Teams
Using Microsoft Teams and getting to grips with this new way of learning will take some time but we are so impressed with how well you have already done! But please do contact your teacher or the office if you are struggling in any way or need any further information.
Year 3 Timetable
Please find an updated Timetable for this week. Remember this is just a guide but at school we always find it helpful knowing where we will be taking the day / week so a plan really helps us structure our day.
Please note: All of the required videos and worksheets are below or at the bottom of this page.
Week commencing 18/01 (Week 3)
This week you will explore the text 'Rotten Island'. First listen to the story recording or read it for yourself on the pdf at the bottom of this page. You will then work with Mrs Wildey and Mrs Walters to create a character description about one rotten creature before choosing your own rotten creature and having a go at writing your HOT WRITE Rotten Creature Character Description. Remember in a HOT WRITE you want to show off everything that you know - using the best language you can choose whilst always having the basics (capital letters and full stops) in the correct place.
All you will need is paper and pencils for these lessons.
Lesson 1 (Monday) - Listen to story and create a plan
Lesson 2 (Tuesday) - Write a toolkit and start writing class character description
Lesson 3 (Wednesday) - Finish writing your Character Description or write another one
Lesson 4 (Thursday) - Plan you own Rotten Creature description
Lesson 5 (Friday) - Write and edit your work (Part 1)
Lesson 5 (Friday) - Part 2
Click on the document links at the bottom of this page to find out what you need to do for each lesson.
Within Maths this week Miss Grant will be recapping our Year 3 subtraction methods. As with the addition, we had started this last half term but a recap will support our understanding of multiplication and division methods.
You will need to watch the videos and pause when you see the Ready, Steady, GoGoGo questions.
You will only need a piece of paper and a pencil.
Lesson 1 (Monday) – Partitioning subtraction method introduction
Lesson 2 (Tuesday) – Knocking on the neighbours door
Lesson 3 (Wednesday) – More practice
Lesson 4 (Thursday) – Spot the mistake
Magnificent Multiplication Friday

New resources will be added next week. Focus on recapping: 2x, 10x, 5x and learning: 3x, 4x and 8x tables - your child should know which multiplication they are currently learning within class.

Within Art we will be focusing on our drawing skills. Use the Rob Biddulph website (Draw with Rob) to create your own drawing. You could choose to draw an Alien, a racing car or anything you choose. We may even show your amazing art work during an afternoon call!
Reading and book sharing
Please find below additional stories read by your teachers and famous individuals. Within the document section below you will also find reading and answer (comprehension) sheets to support your reading. The number of stars indicate how difficult they be:
* = Reading

You do not need to do all of them - just choose the one that you feel you can best answer. (Answers are also included for you and your parents to mark your own work).
Remember to now use Bug Club to support your reading further. The more questions you answer the more games you will be able to play.

Try and start the first 30 minutes of the day doing some form of Physical Education. This will get your mind ready to learn. Remember if you start to feel tired or are in need of a break, why not try moving around. This will get your brain re-focused and ready to do some more learning.
Mr Redman and Mr P have created some daily workouts for you. We have included in the below documents.
